Brazilian Jiu Jitsu also known as “The Gentle Art” is a fighting style directly evolved from Judo.
It is a ground fighting system that utilizes leverage and superior position over strength and brute force, where competitors will attempt to force their opponent into submission from joint locks and chokes. In addition to being a highly effective combat system, it has proven to be a great source of fitness and stress relief for people of all walks of life.
Our Jiu Jitsu classes run 60 minutes in length, and are a mix of a warm up, movement drills, instruction and drilling, and then live sparring (also known as rolling). Jiu Jitsu is a great total body workout often compared to swimming due to the wide range of muscle groups you’ll work while training in a average class. You’ll enhance your cardiovascular strength, improve flexibility, and increase strength all without ever lifting a single weight or touching a treadmill or elliptical.

The Dutch Style of Kickboxing has strong roots in Kyokushin Karate, Boxing, and Thai Boxing (also known as Muay Thai). Dutch Karate practioners began dabbling in Boxing and modernizing their Kyokushin stances and movement and developed their own style of “Kickboxing”. Later these Dutch Kickboxers would begin to venture to Thailand and train with some of the best Thai Trainers in the history of Muay Thai. During their trips they were exposed to different approaches and techniques that had been absent in their own style. They would return to the Netherlands with what they had learned and meld it into their systems and the modern day “Dutch Style” was born.
The focus of the Dutch style is pure aggressive direct action combat. Some of the recognizable traits of a Dutch Style Kickboxer is the aggressive forward motion, and heavy concentration of punches and low kicks as well as some of the more complex kicks and angles of Kyokushin Karate.
The training methods of the Dutch are also a bit different then what you would find in a Western Boxing gym or a Eastern Thai Boxing gym. While equipment such as Heavy Bags and Pads are used, the main bread and butter of the Dutch Style of training is live partner drills; placing actual strikes (with controlled aggression) on a living, breathing opponent that moves and adjusts range constantly. This live type of training, usually to a predetermined time promotes a focus on succesful completion of repititions to improve competency against a actual target and not a stationary object.
Our Dutch Style Kickboxing is ideal for improving your physical fitness, relieving some stress after a long day, learning some self defense skills, or training for Combat Sports competition. Due to the aggressive nature of the Dutch Style it has found more and more popularity in such promotions as GLORY Kickboxing and the K1 as well as Bellator Kickboxing, and more and more Dutch Style Kickboxing can be seen emerging into modern Mixed Martial Arts promotions such as the UFC.
